P555 - 27th June 2010 - Part B

Once again we pack up all the kit for the 3 hour drive down to Weymouth. It was sunny and vert hot, im sure I got heat stroke from just packing the van.... :(

Sunday Morning came around and we all got to the harbour about 8:30 for ropes off at 10am. The sea was FLAT and the sky was pure sun!

The P555 sits on the sea bed about an hours steam from Portland, slack tide was about 12 and we managed to get there with 30mins to spare. We were the second lot in this time which was fine by use as the current was still running a bit. The sea bed is about 45m and she is fully upright, standing about 8m off the sea bed, the P555 was orignal sunk for sonar target pratice and is held inplace by a latice support system with moring ropes over the top of her which then tie off to the sea bed via large T shape castings. She is fully intact apart from the deck gun and prop which looked like they had been removed before her sinking. There is a good bit of sea life on her now but you can still make out all the features of this sub.

We managed a runitme of 100 minuets. One for thelog book but we wont be going back for a long time as you can see the whole sub in about 20 minuets in good viz.
